STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES
I didn't want to leave my job or my city to go to film
school. Film Connection trained me around my regular job. I went
into the production company I apprenticed with once per week around my
busy schedule and I learned camera. After my training was over,
my mentor got me a job at a local camera rental house so I was able to
quit my day job. Now I know camera and have a job. Film
Connection's film course rocks. Don't go to a traditional film
school and spend $30,000 or more. I almost did and I am so glad I
chose to be trained by a real pro at a working production house instead
of some teacher in some crowded and expensive college classroom.
I studied with Film Connections film school program in
Houston, Texas. As part of my training, I apprenticed at a small
production company here in town. My mentor took me on all kinds
of film and video sets like a corporate videos, commercials for local
businesses and news spots. I got to operate the camera, work with
lights, casting, electric, post production and I even got to sit in
with my mentor when he met with clients. There is no way that a
regular film school can compare to this. I learned on real sets
and real projects, not is some classroom on pretend projects.
There's an old saying, "Those that can do, those that can't
teach." I'm glad I choice to study from film professionals who
are actually doing real film work.
Being
in my thirties, I was nervous to sign up for the Film Connection film
school program, but I did and I'm glad I did. Working with my
mentor in Chicago is an enjoyable experience. I have been
involved in various projects. I have gained good,
behind-the-scenes insight working with camera and lighting in
particular. Also, I am particularly interested in gaffer and grip
work. It fascinates me the way light can be modified and changed
to fit certain purposes and moods. I like working on film sets
and ensuring things are properly done. I truly enjoy working with
the people at the studio and I am greatful to have made some good
friends there. I am especially thankful to my mentor Jim who has
exhibited an endless amount of patience with me. Film Connection
works. One-on-one training sounded too good to be true, but it
isn't. Their program works. I had no experience when I
enrolled and Film Connection got me in the door. This is not just
an internship, it's an apprenticeship that gets you trained in your
desired field.
I signed up with Film Connection's film school in Los
Angeles to learn producing. I apprenticed under many line
producers, assistant directors and film producers, but my main mentor
was filmmaker Brian Kraft. Brian met with me at least once a week
and we studied budgeting, scheduling, breaking down a screenplay into
shot sheets and casting. Then I went out to many film sets and
worked with such notable actors as John Malkovich, Alec Baldwin and Tom
Arnold. Film Connection definitely delivers...they get you
trained one-on-one with your own private mentor while they get you onto
movie sets where you can apprentice in any department you wish. I
loved this program. I am now working in the film business because
of Film Connection's no nonsense approach to learning filmmaking.
I
learned Final Cut Pro from a real editor in his real-life post
production studio here in Toronto. Film Connection is not just a
film school, they are offering the best in one-on-one training!
Their structured course curriculum is the best out there. I know,
I checked them all. Quite simply, there is no other film school
that compares for value and experience. In just four months, I
know Final Cut Pro, and now my mentor is helping me find real work in
the film business.
I signed up for the Directing Program with Film Connection
and it worked. Once a week, I met with my mentor Adam Martin, and
he helped me go over such things as camera placement, shot selection,
production design, casting, screenwriting and editing. One-on-one
training is the best way to learn.
