Hailing originally from Arlington, Virginia, Nelsan Melara is a graduate of Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, having earned both an associate’s degree in Recording Arts and a bachelor’s in Entertainment Business. After college, he returned to the D.C. area to work as an event operation manager and cultural arts specialist, during which time he had the privilege of working with major exhibitions and Grammy-nominated artists. These days, Nelson is excited to bring his expertise to RRFC as an admissions counselor. “I am enthusiastic about speaking to the next generation of industry leaders and providing them with the opportunities to succeed in their career interests,” he says.

Xander Tennent’s expertise is in the film industry, where he’s worked in many roles ranging from art PA to editing to script supervision, and even directing. He’s especially passionate about his work as an RRFCC admissions counselor because he experienced the alternative. “I attended Los Angeles Film School, where I learned the true price of trade school,” he says. A true proponent of the mentor-apprentice approach, Xander enjoys connecting students with mentors who actually work in the industry, and who know the steps each student must take toward launching their careers.

A 2008 graduate of the Musicians Institute where he studied production and engineering, Jon Allyn today is a freelance producer who stays busy in the industry, recording local artists and producing scores for independent films. His firsthand experiences in the industry give Jon a special edge when it comes to counseling RRFCC students, and he thrives on helping them along on their respective journeys into the worlds of broadcasting, recording and film.

The Head of Admissions at RRFCC, Benjamin Stewart first made the move to L.A. from his native New Jersey to attend The Los Angeles Recording School, graduating in 2009. His industry experience includes doing sound design for a number of films (including some featured at Tribeca Film Festival), composing music for Ashton Kutcher’s production company Katalyst Media, and engineering a number of famous podcasts including “Hollywood Babble-On” with Kevin Smith and Ralph Garmin. Having experienced both formal education and the “real world” of the industry, Ben is a staunch advocate for hands-on experience and the one-on-one training approach. When not working in the RRFCC offices helping students achieve their dreams, by night Ben is the showroom manager for the Hollywood Improv, doing live sound and lighting for some of the most successful comedians in the world.

Thomas Hogeland comes to RRFCC with more than a decade of experience in film production, having worked on both coasts in all facets of production, from casting to set dressing to props. His industry experience in film makes him an excellent admissions counselor, and his background in education feeds his passion for the program itself. He firmly believes that RRFCC offers the unique experience of education, experience and connections in one package, and he loves explaining the benefits of one-on-one training with our students.

Greg Tariloff began his music education at the University of Denver, where he studied music composition and theory, then moved to L.A. to study audio engineering and music production, graduating from the Los Angeles Recording School. He stays busy in the music industry today, recording and producing tracks both under his solo moniker “Grey Matters” and with his band Owenstone, which is in the process of recording their second EP. He is also working on the debut LP for hip-hop artist Sky King.

“The most rewarding part of being an admissions representative at the RRFC is getting to share my knowledge and experience with our applicants,” says Greg, “and actually seeing success stories being made out of what starts as a simple conversation about the world of art.”

After studying at Full Sail in Winter Park, FL, Russell Knight made his way to Los Angeles to work as a freelance engineer, eventually landing in the film post-production world. As such, he’s already gotten to work on a number of major projects, including Atlas Shrugged Part 2, Silent Night, The Brass Teapot and others, as well as working with celebrities like Rosario Dawson, Tim Robbins and Billy Bob Thornton. As an admissions counselor for RRFCC, he especially enjoys helping prospective students make the right choices for their future careers. “I want every student that I talk to to become a success story,” says Russell. “Getting to hear the excitement in their voices when we talk really makes my day.”

Born in San Gabriel, California, Dennis has been playing music since age 7. His instruments include violin, piano, and guitar. Dennis played in the Hollywood scene for years before studying copyright law at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood. After attending SAE for music production, Dennis began producing artists in genres ranging from Metal to Hip-Hop. He is currently pursuing a solo career of his own and he ardently believes in the mission of the program. “The Recording Connection is the only program that shows students what this industry is all about. I’ll share my knowledge to better the careers of our future students.”
