The Huntsville and Decatur area of Alabama is in the far northern part of the state, enjoying a mild climate fed by the Gulf of Mexico. This, along with its proximity to the scenic areas of Tennessee, make Huntsville-Decatur an excellent area for on-location filming. This is not an area known for its many film schools, but of course, you only need one–especially one that connects you with one of the surprising number of film and TV production companies that call this area home. If you desire a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, there’s no reason you can’t learn right here in the Huntsville-Decatur area, as opposed to relocating to New York or L.A.
Commercials, TV shows, and even major movies are filmed in the Huntsville or Decatur area. Just a few of the motion pictures shot in this area include Constellation and StarStruck. Additionally, portions of Beyond the Stars and Space Camp were filmed at the U.S Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.
