Do you know how many people have lost their shirts trying to make in L.A. or New York? Did you know that there’s an awesome film school in Presque Isle, ME? Welcome to Presque Isle Film Connection, the only way to meet industry professionals that it would take you years to find on your own. Our unique program brings together local filmmaking mentors with our students. If you elect our 6-month behind-the-scenes program, you will meet with the mentor in your concentration at their studio or production house. If you feel like you want to call all the shots, then you’ll want to apply for our 8-month director track. You’ll not only be paired up with local mentors, but you’ll also work with dream mentors who are based in Los Angeles. During your last week in the director program, we’ll fly you out for a pitch meeting with the industry’s leading executives who will tell you if you’ve got what it takes to navigate the shark-infested Hollywood waters. It’s an experience and education that no other film program provides.
Presque Isle, Maine is a small town of about 9000 people, located in the northern part of the state. Perhaps its most significant historical contribution as a city is in the area of hot-air ballooning, being the launch site for the first successful transatlantic balloon crossing in 1978. Nowadays, each year in late August, Presque Isle hosts the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival to commemorate the event.
The Presque Isle area is loaded with beautiful natural scenery, making it a great area for location filming. Other film location hotspots like Bangor and Portland are within driving distance. Additionally, the State of Maine offers generous tax incentive packages for filmmakers who shoot here. Thus, despite the seeming remoteness of this state, there is a remarkable amount of filming that goes on. If you are looking at a career as a film director, film producer, film editor, or camera person, you'll find more opportunities here in Presque Isle than you think.
Some examples of movies that have been shot in Maine include Forrest Gump, Shutter Island, Darkness Falls, Jumanji, Pet Semetary, Message in a Bottle, The Good Son, and In the Bedroom, just to name a few.
