Located in the northern regions of California's vast Central Valley, the state capital of Sacramento and nearby cities Stockton and Modesto boast a combined metro population of over a million people. Situated within range of flatlands, deserts, mountains and the coast, this area provides many diverse locations for filming. Although there are not many Film Schools in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto area to choose from, the area is home to several film and television production companies, where FILM CONNECTION has the means to place you for externship. If you are thinking about a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto region is an excellent alternative to the craziness of L.A.
Major movies, commercials, TV shows and documentaries are filmed throughout this area on a regular basis. Some of the well-known movies that have done location filming in Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto and vicinity include (just to name a few): American Beauty, Memoirs of a Geisha, Phenomenon, Pleasantville, 48 Hours (the movie, not the TV show), Unforgiven, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and even such classics as The Great Race and Cool Hand Luke.
Television production in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto area is significant, as well. TV series Knight Rider was regularly shot here, as well as episodes of The Mentalist and WWF Raw.
With all the film and television production activity done here, as well as its close proximity to great scenery and other sites like San Francisco and Los Angeles, the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto area is an excellent connection point for both film students and filmmaking professionals.
