The Film Industry
in Arkansas

The Film Connection in Arkansas provides a gateway to the film industry that no other film school in the state can offer you. What’s our secret? Simple, really: instead of sticking you in some college or trade school classroom, we place you in a real film production company as a working apprentice (extern) under a real film professional. Your entire education happens on-the-job and “on the set,” where you learn the ropes of filmmaking one-on-one from your mentor by actually participating in the process, making valuable industry connections as you go. Other schools hand you a useless degree and leave you to try to find your own way into the business. With our program, you become an industry insider while you learn, because you’re already in the door!

What do you want to do in film? Do you want to be a cinematographer, screenwriter, film editor, producer or director? Whether you want to work on the set locally, or whether you want the chance to pitch your latest film to Hollywood, the Arkansas Film Connection is the best way to do it.

You might be surprised at how many film and TV production opportunities are right in your own backyard.

Here’s a partial list of popular films and TV shows that have been shot in Arkansas:

  • Biloxi Blues (1988)
  • Walk the Line (2005)
  • Sling Blade (1996)
  • Elizabethtown (2005)
  • The Firm (1993)
  • Mud (2012)
  • North and South (Mini-Series, 1985)
  • The Simple Life (TV Series, 2003)

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to connect to the film industry here in Arkansas, and the Film Connection allows you access to those opportunities in ways other film schools can’t. Whether you live in Little Rock, Fayetteville, Ft. Smith or Jonesboro—whether you want to write, produce, direct or edit—we can connect you with a working film professional in your area that specializes in your field of interest. And if you want the chance to work in Hollywood, we can help with that, too! Our directing program guides you through the process of developing your own film idea, then pitching that idea to real Hollywood executives when you graduate! Name one other film school in Arkansas, or even in the country, that does this. We dare you.

Worried about getting into debt? You should be—at least, with other film schools. They usually charge such high tuition rates that you’re buried in debt before your career ever begins. Not with the Film Connection. We have one of the lowest tuition rates in the marketplace—about 75% less than our competition—so you can focus on launching your career when you graduate, not paying off your debt.

The Film Connection is a fully accredited school that has been around for nearly 30 years. We have endorsements from hundreds of top-shelf industry professionals, many of whom teach for us because they know our on-the-job apprenticeship (externship) approach is the BEST WAY to break into film. Because we train you one-on-one by pairing you with a seasoned film professional, you’ll get a better education than you’d get in a classroom, and you’ll pay a lot less money for it. Plus, you won’t have to move out of Arkansas to get started. We can train you near where you live, and even help connect you to Hollywood when you’re ready!

Are you ready to start your film career? If so, the Arkansas Film Connection is here to help. Apply now for FREE, and learn about how we can pair you with a real film professional in your area.

Programs

You will study inside a real film production company in your city as you develop your movie idea with a legendary to filmmaker. Then you will fly to Los Angeles or New York to pitch your idea to an executive that could buy or get your movie idea made.

Director / Producer / Screenwriter Details

The screenwriter is the person who creates, takes, or adapts an idea and formulates a screenplay. Without the writer, there would be no movie. Period. He or she is the starting gate. He or she is the person that starts the ball rolling down the hill.

Screenwriting Details

In many ways the film editor is the most misunderstood of all film professionals. Often considered just a film technician, a good editor is, without doubt, much more than that. He or she is also a qualified storyteller of the highest order.

Film Editing Details

The cinematographer is literally the set ‘magician.’ DPs are responsible for the technological wizardry to help create the needed light, while at the same time also having the keen sensibility to shape the light for the greatest artistic effect.
