Film Connection does a fantastic job placing you on REAL sets with EXPERIENCED directors, opening doors to build meaningful connections with your mentor and ensuring ongoing learning. You truly get out of the program what you put in.
Learn film production in Maine directly from an industry pro, in the real world, not a classroom. One-on-one mentorship. Build Industry Connections and Gain Real Experience.
If you are passionate about breaking into the film industry, your path to Hollywood starts right here in Maine, with the Maine Film Connection. Why? Unlike other film schools that put you in a crowded classroom far from the actual film industry, we put you in the midst of the industry itself, from the first day of your training. Instead of being a classroom college student, you’ll be a working extern in a real film production company, learning one-on-one from a seasoned film professional, gaining real-world experience on-the-job and on the set, and making lots of connections with other industry professionals. By the time the other film school students graduate and start knocking on the doors, you’ll already be an industry insider, well on your way toward a productive career in film! Whether your dream is to be a film producer, film director, cinematographer, editor or screenwriter, the Film Connection in Maine is your smartest choice for breaking into the business.
When we say your path to Hollywood starts here, we’re not kidding. You’d be surprised at how many contacts you can make with the film industry without ever leaving the state. Need proof? Here is a partial list of the major films that have done location filming in Maine: Message In a Bottle (1999), The Man Without a Face (1993), Peyton Place (1957), In the Bedroom (2001), Shutter Island (2010), Jumanji (1995), Carousel (1956), The Cider House Rules (1999), Pet Sematary (1989), The Preacher’s Wife (1996).
As you can see, it’s quite common for large film productions to come to Maine, partly due to the scenery, and partly due to generous incentives offered by the state. There are plenty of opportunities to connect to the industry, and by placing you as a working extern, the Maine Film Connection helps you make the most of these opportunities where other film schools can’t.
Unlike other film schools, our program gets you working on the job from your very first day until the day you graduate. This is NOT an internship where you run errands, do chores, and hope someone remembers your name. This is an externship where a real film professional becomes your personal mentor, guiding you through our structured curriculum one-on-one and giving you opportunities to participate in real projects. We pair you with a mentor who specializes in your field of interest (whether cinematography, editing, directing, etc.) so your training is geared toward your interests and passions. And if your passion is to break into Hollywood as a filmmaker, your mentor will guide you step-by-step in developing your own film idea—and at the end of your training, we’ll arrange for you to pitch your film in Hollywood to actual industry executives! There is no other opportunity like this anywhere!
One snare to avoid: don’t get buried in student debt, because it can cripple your career before it ever starts. Sadly, most film schools charge so much in tuition that student debt is pretty much unavoidable. But not us. We strive to keep our costs incredibly low, so your tuition will be about 75% LESS with us than with the other guys! That way, you can put your attention on growing your new career, not on how in you’re going to pay off your debt.
Ask any film professional, and they’ll tell you the same thing: the best way to get into the film industry is by working inside it and making connections. Classroom-based film schools might teach you a few things, but you won’t get the experience or connections you really need in order to succeed. The Maine Film Connection puts you in the heart of the action, from day one, for much less money than the competition.
Some of our graduates have gone on to become film directors, script writers, and production company owners. Others are creating and producing their own films across genres like documentary, drama, comedy, action, and animation
