The Tampa-St. Petersburg area is Florida’s second-largest metropolitan area, boasting a combined population of over 2.7 million people, and encompassing Sarasota, Clearwater, and several additional communities. While film schools are generally scarce in the area, there are several film or television companies that make their home in Tampa-St. Petersburg, and it is only 100 miles or so to Orlando, a major filmmaking hotspot. Many major movies, commercials, TV shows, and documentaries are filmed in this area, making it ideal for those filmmakers who prefer not to live in Orlando or relocate to Los Angeles or New York.
