Ready to join the cultural pantheon of Mississippi? Then get with Film Connection Film School in Greenville, Mississippi, the only film school that partners its students with local production companies to provide real-world experiences.
Enrolling in the Greenwood-Greenville Film Connection will mean selecting one of two paths. The first is a 6-month behind the scenes program that will partner you up with local film professionals. They will mentor you throughout your concentration and invite you to their production houses and studios. Upon completing your studies, you will have industry professionals as your first contacts in addition to filmmaking experience that will make you highly attractive to potential employers.
The second, more comprehensive, track is our directors program, which lasts a total of eight months. Your education will lead up to your final week when we fly you out to L.A. There, after meeting with your dream mentors for last-minute tweaks, you and your pitch will be in a room with an industry executive who gives the thumbs up or thumbs down in Hollywood every day. Your typical film school seems like an even bigger waste of money when measured up against our program.
Located in the Mississippi Delta region, the town of Greenwood, Mississippi is home to about 16,000 people. About an hour to the east lies Greenville, a larger town of about 36,000. A number of entertainment industry pros have hailed from this region, including Muppets creator Jim Henson, Supremes singer Mary Wilson, and actors Carrie Nye and Morgan Freeman. Greenville is also home to historic Nelson Street, which in the 1940s and 1950s was a hotspot for live blues film, similar to Beale Street in Memphis.
Although film schools are scarce in this area (except for ours), there are several film production companies that make their home here, and the warm climate and natural scenery make this a great area for location filming. In fact, numerous films, television shows, and commercials are shot around these parts on a regular basis. If you are considering a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, the Greenwood-Greenville area of Mississippi is a great place to start, as an alternative to relocating elsewhere.
Some of the movies that have been filmed in the Greenwood-Greenville area include: Crossroads, Ghosts of Mississippi, The Chamber, Mississippi Masala, The Gun in Betty Lou’s Handbag, and Ode to Billy Joe, just to name a few.
FILM CONNECTION of the Greenwood-Greenville area offers an inexpensive, 6-month course, during which you’ll be paired with a working film or television professional who serves as your personal instructor and mentor, guiding you through hands-on training on real film and video shoots and helping you make vital industry contacts.
