Located along Florida’s gold coast, the cities of West Palm Beach and Ft. Pierce have a combined population of nearly 150,000, but they are set near a larger metropolitan area of over 5 million. The number of film schools in West Palm Beach-Ft. Pierce is scarce compared to other parts of the world; however, there are several film or television production companies here, and the gorgeous ocean views, warm climate and close proximity to other filming hotspots like Orlando and Miami make this an excellent central location for location filming. If you are considering a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, the West Palm Beach-Ft. Pierce area is an excellent choice for you–especially if you prefer the beauty of Florida without wanting to relocate to Orlando, Miami, New York or L.A.
Just a few of the more well-known movies that have been filmed in and around the West Palm Beach-Ft. Pierce area include Smokey and the Bandit, The Longest Yard, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Redemption and Police Academy 5. Additionally, numerous telvision series have been filmed in whole or in part in the area; these include America’s Most Wanted, This Old House and My Super Sweet 16.
