This week, I learned more about the Steadicam and began practicing with it. My mentor set up obstacles for me to navigate while filming, helping me improve my technique. Later, we explored additional sound editing techniques.
On Friday, my mentor’s former intern, now a director at the local Channel 2 station, visited. We discussed his career, and he shared valuable advice for my future. Even better, my mentor asked him to help me find a job at the station. While he couldn’t guarantee anything, I’m grateful for the opportunity to get my name out there.
I also received Final Cut today, but I was supposed to get Adobe Premiere since I don’t have a Mac. Please call or email me to let me know how to proceed—I’d really appreciate it! Thank you, Greg!
Additionally, this week, I reviewed three lessons on directing. My mentor, Brian, went over them with me, providing insightful examples of his project preparation process, which deepened my understanding. He then introduced me to the cameras at the studio, from a vintage 1950s model to the Canon T2i, teaching me technical terms and the significance of each setting. To wrap up, he gave me a tutorial video on Steadicam operation to review. Next week, I’ll start hands-on training with the Steadicam, and I’m excited to develop this new skill.
