The cities of Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri are roughly thirty miles apart from each other, located near the geographic center of the state. Jefferson City serves as the state capital, its scenic capital dome overlooking the Missouri River. Taken together, the two cities have a combined population of around 150,000 people. The Columbia-Jefferson City area has quite a diversity of natural scenery, with mountains, flatlands, rivers, caves and rock formations all within a fairly small radius–making it a prime area for interesting location shots.  Additionally, this area is about equally distant from Kansas City to the west and St. Louis to the east, which makes it a convenient connection point for both. Add to that the presence of several production companies in the area, and a generous tax incentive plan offered by the state of Missouri to attract filmmakers, and the Columbia-Jefferson City area becomes a surprisingly good alternative spot for aspiring film directors, film producers and film editors looking to get an education.

Movies, TV shows, commercials and documentaries are filmed on a regular basis throughout Missouri. Some of the movies that have been filmed in the Columbia-Jefferson City area and surrounding regions of Missouri include Eight Days and Six Hours, Submission, Box Elder, A Horrible Way to Die, Up in the Air, and The Silence of the Lambs, just to name a few.
