Lansing is the state capital of Michigan, located in the south-central part of the lower peninsula. Much of the city itself grew up around the establishment of an auto factory in the 1890s, building the car that would become known as Oldsmobile. Several industry pros have hailed from this area, including screenwriter Jim Cash (who wrote Top Gun), actors Timothy Busfield, Steven Segall and Burt Reynolds, and film director John Hughes. Hosting a population of around 113,000 people today, Lansing is home to several production companies and is within driving distance of lakeshore views, beautiful forests and countryside, and major cities such as Detroit and Chicago. Additionally, Michigan has one of the most generous tax incentive plans available in the nation for filmmakers, attracting many film productions to the area. If you are thinking about a filmmaking career as a film producer, film director or otherwise, Lansing makes a great alternative to the craziness of L.A. or New York.

Movies, commercials, TV shows and documentaries are filmed in Lansing and surrounding areas of Michigan on a regular basis. Some of the films that have been filmed in and near this area include Gran Torino, Road to Perdition, Whip It, Blood Ties and the 2007 documentary Slacker Uprising, to name a few. This area is no stranger to television production, either; episodes of WWF Raw, Hung and Home Improvement have all done location shooting in Lansing or surrounding areas.

The secret to FILM CONNECTION's success is our mentor-apprentice (extern) approach. During our inexpensive, 6-month course, you'll be paired with a working film or television professional who serves as your personal instructor and mentor, guiding you through hands-on training on real film and video shoots. You'll also make vital industry contacts along the way.  The fruit of our revolutionary system is in our graduates; over 70 percent of them get hired in the industry, many times before they even finish our progam. You owe it to yourself to see what FILM CONNECTION of Lansing, Michigan can do for your career!
