Real filmmaking education. Real film industry connections.

An Immersive
Film Education

From directing to producing to editing and screenwriting, our mentor-based programs avoid the unnecessary costs and unrelated requirements of typical schools. Work directly with accomplished industry veteran filmmakers at one of our fully-equipped film production companies across the country.

Programs

You will study inside a real film production company in your city as you develop your movie idea with a legendary to filmmaker. Then you will fly to Los Angeles or New York to pitch your idea to an executive that could buy or get your movie idea made.

Director / Producer / Screenwriter Details

The screenwriter is the person who creates, takes, or adapts an idea and formulates a screenplay. Without the writer, there would be no movie. Period. He or she is the starting gate. He or she is the person that starts the ball rolling down the hill.

Screenwriting Details

In many ways the film editor is the most misunderstood of all film professionals. Often considered just a film technician, a good editor is, without doubt, much more than that. He or she is also a qualified storyteller of the highest order.

Film Editing Details

The cinematographer is literally the set ‘magician.’ DPs are responsible for the technological wizardry to help create the needed light, while at the same time also having the keen sensibility to shape the light for the greatest artistic effect.

I began TAPROOT with a passion to create inspiring film and video content that would move people and maybe even make the world a little bit better place. There are projects that TAPROOT pursues and develops based on our interests, but I’m a firm believer that we all have our callings, and that collectively we can have the biggest impact. Our team has a multi-disciplinary background that enables us to understand and compellingly translate your messages and ideas to the visual medium of film and video, and we create and execute projects of varying scale from start to finish. I run TAPROOT and provide direction on all our projects, which include: story-based branded content, television commercials, web based video of all sorts, and film series.

The Boulder, Colorado Film Connection Film School Advantage

While there is more than one Boulder Film School program from which to choose, there is only one that hooks you up as a film student apprentice (extern)  inside an actual Boulder film production company, working with the pros while you learn directing, producing, editing, camera, screenwriting or general production. In Boulder, Colorado, there's no better way to launch a career in film than to start as a film apprentice (extern) inside a Boulder film production company–and no film school that can get you there better than FILM CONNECTION.

Don't make the mistake of spending 10-50 thousand dollars to go to film school at a college or film trade school, when you could go to film school in a real production company for a fraction of that amount. Play it smart–get on the inside track, and make vital industry contacts while getting your education in a real-world environment. Our film school alternative is the smartest, most cost efficient film program out there today.

Nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just northwest of the Denver metro area, the city of Boulder, Colorado is home to around 94,000 residents. Pedestrian-friendly, convenient to plenty of outdoor recreation, and home to University of Colorado at Boulder, this town is consistently ranked in surveys as one of the healthiest, happiest and most educated cities in America. In addition, Boulder is extremely arts-friendly and film-friendly, hosting a number of arts and film festivals annually.

Because of its location and surroundings, Boulder is also a favorite site for filmmakers. In fact, IMDB lists nearly 200 movies, TV shows, documentaries and specials that have been filmed in the area. A sampling of the movies that have done location shooting here include American Flyers, Catch and Release, About Schmidt, the Woody Allen film Sleeper, and the classic film The Glenn Miller Story (starring James Stewart) to name a few. The popular 1970s sitcom Mork & Mindy was also set in Boulder, and the external shots for the show were shot on location here.

The amount of filming activity in this area makes Boulder a prime connection point for film students and filmmaking professionals.  Whether your interest is in directing, producing, editing, lighting or special effects, Boulder offers plenty of opportunity for you, and FILM CONNECTION puts you close to the action in ways other film schools canÕt match.  Our secret is our revolutionary mentor-apprentice (extern) approach, in which we pair you with a working film or television professional who personally instructs you during real film and video shoots, enabling you to make important industry contacts along the way.  Over 70 percent of our graduates get hired and you could be next!  Enroll today, and we could have you on the set within the month.
