Film Connection film school in Columbia, South Carolina provides an innovative and comprehensive approach to education if you’re an aspiring filmmaker. We enable you to experience a hands-on, mentor-guided film education from the very beginning of their program. Located in Columbia, the Film Connection offers prospective students the opportunity to learn filmmaking skills through real-world experience without having to travel far away from home.
Film Connection believes that learning by doing is the most effective way to gain knowledge and understanding of a complex field like filmmaking. As part of its program, each student is paired with an experienced mentor who works with them one-on-one throughout their studies at Film Connection. This mentor can provide firsthand guidance and advice on everything from shooting techniques to post-production workflows as well as help them develop their own projects as soon as they enroll in the school.
The curriculum offered by Film Connection covers everything from scriptwriting and pre-production planning to cinematography, editing, sound design, and more. Through hands-on learning with your mentor and practical exercises conducted both online and on-site, you can develop your filmmaking skills while gaining an understanding of all aspects of production from A to Z. Moreover, each student will benefit from personalized instruction tailored to their individual needs and aspirations as filmmakers.
Film Connection also offers opportunities for you to put into practice what you’ve learned in order to gain invaluable experience working on actual productions both locally and on location. Through this unique combination of academic instruction and professional experience, you will come away with a portfolio full of projects that demonstrate not only the technical ability but also the creative vision that sets you apart when applying for jobs or pitching your own projects down the line.
At Film Connection students are encouraged not only to think outside the box but also to hone their craft through collaboration with others on the set or in the production company—an important skill for any filmmaker no matter what level they’re at! But it doesn’t end there. Upon finishing a Film Connection program, we support you by offering up to one year of job placement assistance.
Many Film Connection students find work in the production company they externed at with their mentor while others go on to find jobs in other locations based on recommendations from their mentors. Many externs begin making independent films, often working with the very people they met while enrolled at Film Connection. These types of connections just aren’t available in a traditional classroom setting.
There’s a bit of a myth about what it takes to make a name for yourself in the film industry–you need to move away to the big city or attend a name university to learn your craft. The truth is, you can get a world-class education and make industry connections without having to go into massive student loan debt. Our tuition is just a fraction of what those “brand” schools cost and our accelerated programs mean you can start working in less than a year.
Sure, you could spend the money to move to another city, find a new place to live, and take trips back home to see friends and family.
