Meridian Classroom

Real filmmaking education. Real film industry connections.

An Immersive
Film Education

From directing to producing to editing and screenwriting, our mentor-based programs avoid the unnecessary costs and unrelated requirements of typical schools. Work directly with accomplished industry veteran filmmakers at one of our fully-equipped film production companies across the country.

Programs

You will study inside a real film production company in your city as you develop your movie idea with a legendary to filmmaker. Then you will fly to Los Angeles or New York to pitch your idea to an executive that could buy or get your movie idea made.

Director / Producer / Screenwriter Details

The screenwriter is the person who creates, takes, or adapts an idea and formulates a screenplay. Without the writer, there would be no movie. Period. He or she is the starting gate. He or she is the person that starts the ball rolling down the hill.

Screenwriting Details

In many ways the film editor is the most misunderstood of all film professionals. Often considered just a film technician, a good editor is, without doubt, much more than that. He or she is also a qualified storyteller of the highest order.

Film Editing Details

The cinematographer is literally the set ‘magician.’ DPs are responsible for the technological wizardry to help create the needed light, while at the same time also having the keen sensibility to shape the light for the greatest artistic effect.

The Film Scene in Meridian

The Meridian, Mississippi Film Connection Film School Advantage

An area rich in culture deserves a film school that produces jobs and contacts for its students. Enter Meridian Film Connection, a unique program that focuses on mentorships as a teaching tool. We’ve teamed up with production companies in Meridian to bring an immersive film education for anyone looking to break into the business.

Your first option is our 6-month behind the scenes track. You will work closely with mentors who are working film professionals in the concentration that you select. Our more comprehensive option is the 8-month director program. You will begin with a project in a genre that you have chosen. Under the guidance of your local mentors, you will write, direct, and edit this project and end up in L.A. in your very own pitch meeting. There is simply no film program anywhere that offers this level of professional guidance and insider access. Hollywood veterans spend years in the filmmaking trenches to get these kinds of meetings with no guarantee that they’ll even hear back from the executives that see them. You will be working toward closing your deal from the moment you sign on to learn with The Film Connection.

Meridian, Mississippi is located in the east-central part of the state, not far from the Alabama state line. It is perhaps best known in entertainment as the birthplace of country music legend Jimmie Rodgers, but other entertainers hailing from the area include singer-songwriter Paul Davis and actresses Sela Ward and Diane Ladd. The population of Meridian itself is around 38,000 people, but the Meridian DMA media market reaches up to a half million people in the surrounding areas. Scenic countryside, coastal areas and several major cities are all within driving distance of Meridian, making it a good center hub for location filming; additionally, several production companies make their home in this area. If you are considering becoming a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, there is plenty of opportunity to learn filmmaking in Meridian without having to relocate to the craziness of Los Angeles or New York.

Movies, commercials, TV shows and documentaries are filmed on a regular basis throughout Mississippi, including in the Meridian area. Some of the films that have done shooting in Meridian or the surrounding regions include Red Dirt, My Dog Skip, O Brother Where Art Thou?, and Mississippi Buring, just to name a few.

With many professional connections and relationships we've developed over the years, FILM CONNECTION is in a unique position to help you launch your career in the film and TV industry. We do it through our revolutionary mentor-apprentice (extern) approach, where we pair you with a working professional in the film or television industry, who serves as your mentor-instructor. You'll get on-the-job training, making valuable connections along the way. Come see why over 70 percent of our graduates get hired in the industry, often before they finish our program!  You could be next! Check out Meridian FILM CONNECTION today, and let us show you what we can do for you.
