Why move your entire life to L.A. or New York to study filmmaking when a better program exists right here in St. Joseph? That’s right, St. Joseph Film Connection has real-world, not classroom, experience waiting for you. You’ll also get industry contacts in your filmmaking community. Traditional film schools can only expose you to other students.

Start with our 6-month program if behind the scenes is where you’d like to be. You’ll be hooked up with local mentors who will guide your personal project and give you the skinny on what it takes to be a working filmmaker. And if you need to feel the complete film experience, then the 8-month directors track is what you want to try. Your local mentors will help you write, direct, and edit your project. Additionally, you will be working closely with dream mentors who are located in Los Angeles. They’ll be there when you arrive during your last week of the program to slam dunk a pitch meeting in person with an industry executive. It’s a long road from St. Joseph to Hollywood, but we’ll help you make it!

St. Joseph, Missouri is a town of around 76,000 people, located along the Missouri River about 40 miles north of Kansas City. The town has historical significance for being as the eastern endpoint of the Pony Express, and the hometown of notorious criminal Jesse James. Its beautiful natural scenery and close proximity to a major urban area make St. Joseph a strategic area for diverse filmmaking locations. Not only are there several production companies that call St. Joseph home, but the town also benefits from Missouri's generous tax incentive program that attracts many filmmakers to the area. If you desire a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, St. Joseph is a great place to learn as an alternative to relocating somewhere else.

Many major movies, commercials, TV shows and documentaries are filmed all over Missouri on a regular basis. Among the numerous films shot in St. Joseph and the surrounding regions of Missouri are Escape from New York, Ghost Taxi, Paper Moon, Bruno, Four Brothers, and Ride with the Devil, just to name a few.
