Topeka Classroom

Real filmmaking education. Real film industry connections.

An Immersive
Film Education

From directing to producing to editing and screenwriting, our externship-based, mentor-taught programs avoid the unnecessary costs and unrelated requirements of ordinary film schools and programs. Work directly with an accomplished industry filmmaker at a fully-equipped film production company.

Programs

You will study inside a real film production company in your city as you develop your movie idea with a professional filmmaker. Then you will fly to Los Angeles or New York to pitch your idea to an executive that could buy or get your movie idea made.

Film Production & Editing Details

The screenwriter is the person who creates, takes, or adapts an idea and formulates a screenplay. Without the writer, there would be no movie. Period. He or she is the starting gate. He or she is the person that starts the ball rolling down the hill.

Screenwriting Details

In many ways the film editor is the most misunderstood of all film professionals. Often considered just a film technician, a good editor is, without doubt, much more than that. He or she is also a qualified storyteller of the highest order.

Film Editing Details

The cinematographer is literally the set ‘magician.’ DPs are responsible for the technological wizardry to help create the needed light, while at the same time also having the keen sensibility to shape the light for the greatest artistic effect.

Topeka, Kansas is the state capital of Kansas, a city of about 125,000 people. The area has historical significance because of the landmark court case Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, which effectively ended racial segregation in American schools. Entertainment industry people hailing from the Topeka area include rock band Kansas and actors Annette Bening and Gregg Binkley. Besides being home to several film or television production companies, Topeka is also in driving distance to other metro areas such as Kansas City, Omaha and Tulsa, making it a good central area for identifying film locations. If you are considering a career in filmmaking as a film director, film producer, film editor, or cameraman, FILM CONNECTION can help you get your start right here in Topeka, as an alternative to relocating elsewhere. Some of the movies that have been filmed in whole or in part in Topeka and surrounding regions include Suspension, No Holds Barred, Friday Night Lights (the movie), and Four Brothers, just to name a few. The Topeka area has been no stranger to television production, either; made-for-TV movies Truman, A Matter of Justice and Cross of Fire were shot in the area, as well as episodes of Broken Road, WWF Raw, and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Our Topeka FILM CONNECTION has the unique approach of pairing you with a working film or television professional who serves as your personal instructor/mentor during our inexpensive, six-month program. During that time, you will gain valuable hands-on experience on real film and video shoots, plus make vital industry connections that can lead to permanent employment. In fact, over 70% of our film school graduates get hired, often even before they finish our program.  You owe it to yourself to see what we can do for your career. To APPLY click here.
