The Film Industry
in Maryland

The Maryland Film Connection is a film school like no other.  If you’re serious about starting a career in film as a screenwriter, film editor, cinematographer, producer or film director, you owe it to yourself to give us a look.  Why? Because unlike other film schools that charge ridiculous tuition rates to stick you in a college or trade school classroom, we place you as a working extern alongside a real filmmaker or film professional in an actual production company, for a fraction of what the other guys charge.  Imagine learning on-the-job and on the set of real film productions.  Imagine being trained one-on-one by a film professional who does what you want to do for a living.  Imagine being in daily contact with lots of film industry professionals, and networking with them for your future career.  With the Film Connection in Maryland, this is not fantasy: it is how we teach you film!

The best part is that you don’t have to move to Hollywood to get connected to the film industry, because in many instances, Hollywood comes right to you doorstep.  How?

Just take a look at this partial list of major motion picture productions that have come to Maryland to shoot on location:

  • Twelve Monkeys (1999)
  • Sleepless In Seattle (1993)
  • Failure to Launch (2006)
  • Syriana  (2005)
  • True Lies (1994)
  • Hairspray (2007)
  • Philomena (2013)
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
  • Wedding Crashers (2005)
  • Along Came a Spider (1989)
  • Runaway Bride (1999)
  • Tuck Everlasting (2002)
  • xXx: State of the Union (2005)

See what we mean when we say Hollywood comes to Maryland?  And that doesn’t even speak to major TV productions like the highly popular series House of Cards, or Maryland’s busy film festival scene.  There are plenty of opportunities to make industry connections here, as long as you are in the right place when those opportunities come around.  You WON’T get those opportunities in a classroom—you can only get them by being involved directly in the film industry.  And that’s where the Maryland Film Connection puts you, from day one.

With our unique training program, you will not spend a single day in a classroom.  You’ll work through a structured curriculum, and you’ll have homework, but the real power of our program is in the personal instruction you receive from your mentor and the actual work experience you receive by participating in the daily activities of the film studio where you are externing.  Your curriculum can be tailored to your particular area of interest, whether directing, producing, screenwriting, editing, etc.—and we pair you with a mentor who specializes in that field.  You’ll get plenty of experience toward building a successful career in the Maryland film industry, but if you want to make the jump to Hollywood, we can arrange that, too.  Your mentor will teach you step-by-step how to develop your own film idea from concept to completion, and when you’re ready, we’ll arrange for you to go to Hollywood and PITCH YOUR OWN FILM TO REAL INDUSTRY EXECUTIVES.  Can you name one other film school that does this?

What about the price?  Other film schools charge tuition rates so high that you’re practically forced into crushing amounts of student debt, which can kill your career before it ever starts.  Not the Maryland Film Connection.  Not only are we the most innovative film school you’ll find, but we’re also the most cost-effective. With us, you’ll pay about 75 LESS than you would at any other school, so you can skip the crippling debt and get on with your career.

Are you ready to kickstart your film career?  Are you ready to grab the opportunity?  APPLY NOW FOR FREE to learn more.

Programs

In the Film Connection for Film Production & Editing program, you will study directing, producing and screenwriting as you develop your movie idea with a professional filmmaker. Then, upon meeting the necessary requirements, you will be given the opportunity to fly to Los Angeles or New York and pitch your film idea to an executive who could buy or get your movie made.

Film Production & Editing Details

In the Film Connection for Cinematography program, you will learn the techniques involved in capturing a moving image and will start to develop “the eye of the DP.” The cinematographer is literally the set ‘magician.’ DPs are responsible for the technological wizardry required to get the needed shots and to shape light to achieve the director’s desired artistic effect.
